B Loop - first time here - lots of trash around, wrappers, debris, broken glass, beer cans and bottles. And lots of the railroad ties are rotten causing major potential problem with injury. The stairs at my site were rotten. Large variety of sizes for campsites. Some are well-shaded, others would be a nightmare in summer. Never found the camp host but it was a Monday.
Hike was much longer than listed only slightly picturesque in my humble opinion but worth seeing and doing. There were some beautuful spots however. You can get confused but reading reviews helped immensely to know I was on the right trail. In all fairness, I usually mountain hike and I only did the Lake Russell Trail. My Pacer recorded 6 miles for which I was unprepared with my dogs on such a hot day. Not sure why they allow bikes on this trail. Also it shpuld be noted I got to the beaitiful part at the end and was too tired hot and ready to be done to take more shots. As you can see it does have its beauty in being a still and colorful lake/s.
Went back for Thurs/Fri - was a bit more crowded, maybe 5 families a day. No smoking is allowed on the beach, despite signage, had to ask several people to move their smoking as I was downwind. None of the trash was picked up from earlier in the week. Not sure if the dude in the golf cart was camp host or what but he spent a lot of time hanging out at a campsite down from me where one visitor was beyond public intoxication. Made me a bit uncomfortable based on comments the drunk made. Bathrooms in beach area are much cleaner than campgrounds- I showered at the beach.
We stayed on loop A last time and the bath houses are in bad shape. Women's shower has no pressure and water temp is too hot for bathing children. Have enjoyed this campground for over 20 years, but need some attention now. Don't publicize on National Foests site that showers are available if they're not functioning properly.
Love this place, come here all the time. Very peaceful
Fortunately, they don't close down the hiking trails. If they can get onboard with the schedule followed by most local campgrounds, it would be a great resource for Habersham.
Updated:
Great local campground facilities but largely useless for camping, as it closes down just as prime Georgia camping weather begins. I had to double check the hours when I saw that they closed in the Fall.
